Move to midweek gives

delegates new options

A number of significant changes are being made to improve Umbrella's format still further so in 2009 CILIP's member-led event meets the changing needs of its community.

Based on feedback from 2007, several new features will be introduced in 2009

  • NEW - Umbrella 2009 will take up just two full days - so delegates need less time away from their work
  • NEW - Umbrella 2009 is moving to mid-week - so delegates do not have to give up their weekend
  • NEW - Two full days of conference sessions will run from 10.15 on Tuesday to 17.00 on Wednesday - still delivering a choice of 56 sessions
  • NEW -The exhibition will be open throughout the conference, and the venue for all refreshments
  • NEW - Director of Studies for the 2009 programme is Ian Snowley, Head of Education at the British Library, and CILIP's Immediate Past President

Over the years CILIP's biennial Umbrella Conference has become a well-established, must attend event for library professionals.  However, Umbrella is constantly evolving to meet members' demands as they face the challenge of 21st century librarianship.

In 2007 more than 700 delegates rated the conference 95% Good to Excellent.  Click here to read some of the comments from Umbrella 2007.
