Smith

David
is a Deputy Director in the Department for Communities and Local
Government, heading its Knowledge Management Division as Chief Knowledge
Officer, with responsibility for a range of information services,
including Freedom of Information, Data Protection, libraries, records
management, electronic document and records management, and knowledge
management. In addition, David provides records management and library
and information services to the Department for Transport under a
shared services agreement.
David
sits on a range of government bodies, including the Government's
Knowledge Council, the Information Rights Management Group, the
cross-Whitehall working group on the management of public sector
intangible assets, and the Information and Records Management Group.
In addition he is Chair of the Committee of Departmental Librarians
(the governing body of government library and information professionals),
and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals'
Government Library and Information Group representative on the Standing
Committee On Official Publications. Current work includes the implementation
of a departmental EDRM system and the delivery of the department's
Knowledge Management Strategy.

of senior government information professionals, focussing on issues
on Freedom of Information, Data Protection and ethics.
