Patrick
Ryan

Patrick
obtained his first professional post in the Ministry of Defence
in 1984 where he was cataloguer for the Army library Service. From
there, since 1985, he has worked in a number of Government library
posts ranging from Librarian in the Property Services Agency to
Senior Librarian in the Ministry of Agriculture. In
1997, Patrick became Chief Librarian in DfES. In May 2002, he returned
to the Ministry of Defence as Chief Librarian with particular responsibility
for the Main Building library and the Ministry's Internet and Intranet.
From July 2007 to July 2008, he acted in an advisory capacity, on
secondment, to Land Registry. He then returned to MOD in July 2008.
Throughout
this period Patrick has been active professionally. He has been
Secretary to the Committee of Departmental Librarians, Editor of
State Librarian (he reviewed its production methods and updated
its image). He is Guest Editor of the Government Librarian's
Information Newsletter for the coming year. Patrick
is currently UK Government Library representative on the IFLA
Government Libraries section.

This
session will provide an opportunity to come and ask questions form
a panel of senior government information professionals, focussing
on issues on Freedom of Information, Data Protection and ethics.
