Eve
Pollard (OBE) - guest speaker at Umbrella 2009 Gala Dinner

Eve
Pollard lived in Maida Vale, London
with
her parents and
younger
twin brothers, Peter and Ralph Pollard. During her school years
she developed a love of journalism and, by the
age
of 21, had begun her journalistic career. From humble beginnings
as a tea lady, she worked her way up the ranks to become fashion
editor at Honey magazine.
Her
career blossomed as she was the launch editor-in-chief of the US
ELLE magazine in 1985. She went on to become the second
ever female editor of a UK national newspaper, editing the Sunday
Mirror, where she won the Editor of the Year Award, moving to the
Sunday Express in 1991-1994.
Alongside
her journalistic success, Eve has established herself as a respected
author and broadcaster, with publications including Splash ,
Best of Enemies and Unfinished Business . Her
most recent novel, Jack's Widow, explores a new perspective
on the life of Jacqueline Onassis, the biography of whom was first
written by Pollard in 1971.
Eve's
achievements were recognized with an OBE awarded to her in 2008,
and we are delighted to welcome her as our guest speaker for Umbrella
2009.
